Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Pirate Wars Online ("the game," "we," "us") for playing the game. By downloading, launching, or playing Pirate Wars, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't play.

The short version

• The game is free. There are no ads and nothing to buy.
• Play fair: no cheating, no bots, no tampering with the game or its network traffic.
• Your captain name is visible to other players — keep it clean.
• In-game gold and upgrades are not real money and have no value outside the game.
• The game is online-only. We can't promise the servers are always up, and your progress isn't guaranteed forever.
• You can stop and delete your account at any time; we can close an account that breaks these terms.

Who can play

The game is intended for players 13 and over. By playing, you confirm you are at least 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should have a parent or guardian read these terms with you.

Your account

The game creates an account for you automatically so your progress is saved — you never have to sign in, though you can optionally link Game Center or Sign in with Google. You are responsible for the device and any linked sign-in you use to reach your account, and for everything done on it. Don't share it, and don't try to access anyone else's.

You can permanently delete your account at any time from the in-game settings. See Delete your account for what that removes. What we store while the account exists is described in our Privacy Policy.

Your licence to play

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play the game on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. That licence is all you get — we are not selling you the game or any part of it.

You may not:

• Copy, sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the game or any part of it.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted.
• Modify the game, run modified or unofficial clients, or bypass any technical limit in it.
• Use the game or our servers for anything other than playing it — including commercial use, resale of accounts, or running the game as a service for others.

Fair play

Combat is resolved on our servers so that every captain plays by the same rules. Don't try to get around that. Specifically, don't:

• Cheat, exploit bugs for advantage, or use trainers, injectors, or memory editors.
• Automate play with bots, scripts, or macros.
• Intercept, forge, replay, or tamper with traffic between the app and our servers, or connect to our servers with anything other than the official app.
• Attack, overload, probe, or otherwise interfere with our servers or other players' ability to play.
• Abuse, harass, threaten, or impersonate other players.

Your captain name

Your captain name is the only thing you write that other players see. Pick one that isn't obscene, hateful, harassing, deceptive, someone else's personal information, or an impersonation of another person or of us. We may change or reset a name that breaks this rule, and we may close the account behind a name that keeps doing it.

Gold, upgrades, and other in-game things

Gold, levels, skill points, ship upgrades, and everything else you earn exist only inside the game. They are not your property, have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money or anything outside the game, and cannot be sold or transferred to another player or account. We may adjust, rebalance, add, or remove them as the game is tuned, and account progress may be changed or reset if it was obtained by cheating or by a bug.

The game is currently free, with no advertising and no purchases of any kind. If that ever changes, we'll update these terms and say so on this page before it takes effect.

The game is a live online service

Pirate Wars needs a connection to our servers to play; there is no offline mode. That means we may, at any time and without notice, change how the game works, update or rebalance it, take servers down for maintenance, limit access, or discontinue the game entirely. We don't guarantee any level of uptime, latency, or match quality, and we can't promise your account or its progress will remain available indefinitely. If we shut the game down permanently, we'll try to give reasonable notice on this website.

Our content

The game, its name, its artwork, its code, and everything in it other than your captain name belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that to you.

You're welcome to record, stream, and share gameplay footage, including on monetized channels, as long as you don't present it as an official Pirate Wars channel or imply we endorse or sponsor it.

App stores and other third parties

You download the game through an app store, and you may optionally sign in through a platform account. Those services are run by other companies, under their own terms and privacy policies, and we don't control them. Their terms apply to your use of them in addition to these.

Suspension and closing accounts

You can stop playing at any time, and delete your account from inside the game. We may suspend or permanently close an account, or block access to the game, if it breaks these terms — most often for cheating or for abusing other players. Where the situation makes it reasonable, we'll warn first, but a serious breach can end an account immediately. A closed account and its progress are not recoverable.

No warranty

The game is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't warrant that the game will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that bugs will be fixed. Some jurisdictions don't allow excluding implied warranties, in which case the exclusions above apply only as far as the law permits.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, progress, in-game items, goodwill, or profits, arising out of or relating to the game — even if we've been told such damages are possible.

The game is free, so where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the game is limited to USD 50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the game changes. The current version always lives on this page with a "Last updated" date, and continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated terms. If a change is material, we'll make a reasonable effort to flag it in the game or on this site.

The rest

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the game.
